Westpile has completed its contract for the installation of a contiguous piled retaining wall and foundation piles for main contractor HBG Construction Limited, in the £50m redevelopment programme for the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
The museum’s new facilities will comprise 39 further galleries which will double the currently available display space. In addition, the new building will include a dedicated Education Centre and state-of-the-art conservation studios.
Westpile’s contract has been delivered over two installation phases. The first of these, for installation of the retaining wall comprising 57 400mm diameter CFA piles of average 8.5m depth, commenced in late January and was completed in a single week. The second visit for the installation of 258 400mm diameter load bearing CFA piles to average depths of 18.5m, commenced in mid March and was completed at the end of April. Soilmec rigs were used for both installations.
