Caton Moor Wind Farm

Westpile has installed 96 750mm diameter CFA piles for the foundations to six new wind turbine bases at the Caton Moor Wind Farm near Morcambe Bay, Lancashire.
Each base requires 16 piles bored into the siltstone to depths ranging between 7.0m and 24.5m. Westpile has been using a Soilmec R-825 rig attended by a service crane and on-site mixer.
The wind farm, owned and operated since 1994 by the independent British wind energy company Hainsford Energy, is being updated to provide additional capacity from fewer turbines.
10 generators which have been producing an average of 7m kW hours/year are being reduced in number and replaced with 8 new units of significantly higher output.Working in unusually desolate surroundings for a piling installation.
