Middlesex University Extensions

Simplex Foundations is installing a total of approximately 1200 piles at the new Middlesex University Arts and Media Centre complex which is underway at the Universities’ Hendon Site by VINCI Construction UK.
The piling works comprise 500, 600mm secant wall CFA piles providing a retained height of 6m overall, extended to 10m for the isolated pump chamber area; and approximately 550, CFA and rotary auger load bearing piles for various structures, some of which are located within the basement excavation.
Simplex have been using up to three piling rigs on site to complete their contract within the programme.
The construction constraints include strict adherence to specified working hours, site cleanliness, and noise pollution.
The new complex is to comprise three interlocking buildings of up to five storeys, together with associated basement area and infrastructure. The facility will provide for new lecture rooms, administration and studio space.
The Client for the scheme is Middlesex University. The Main Contractor is VINCI Construction UK. Simplex Foundations’ contract value is of the order of £900k.
