Westpile completed an extensive piling project for developer and main contractor, HBG Construction Limited in Orpington, Kent.
The project, in a substantial town centre site, is for commercial and residential use in over five storeys with two levels of underground parking. A key feature will be a new superstore on two the first two storeys.
Westpile visited the site four times during a nine month schedule in order to carry out the installation of the 900mm and 1050mm diameter secant piled retaining wall on all four sides of the site, which totaled 380 linear metres.
Following bulk excavation, 500 load bearing foundation piles of 450 and 600mm diameter to a maximum depth of 21m were installed using heavy duty CFA piling rigs.
Logistics included access and operations in a prime residential and retail location, involving local cooperation and commitment to low noise and nuisance guidelines. Ground conditions comprised clay and gravels overlying chalk.
