Simplex Installs M40 Road Bridge Piling

Simplex Foundations installs preliminary test piles and working bearing piles for the construction of a new road bridge spanning the M40 Motorway as part of the M40 Junction 15 (Longbridge) Bypass currently underway in Warwickshire.
Piling works carried out over three visits to site immediately adjacent to the M40 live motorway — with traffic management measures in place to allow the piling works to be completed safely – included installation and testing of 750mm and 1050mm rotary bored piles in a contract valued at approximately £360k.
Orientation of piling rig and cranes was planned on a pile by pile basis to allow continuation of the main contractor’s programme and a safe working radius.
Ground conditions, variable between the north and south abutments, are generally made ground over sands and gravels, over Mercia mudstone. All piles are founded with specific penetrations into mudstone and tested to 1.5x safe working load.
Andes – Watson piling rig, Soilmec R312 piling rig and 80T IHI crawler crane were deployed on this project. The main contractor is Morrison’s Highways Capital. The client is the Highways Agency.
