Simplex piles for new Hilton hotel at Heathrow

Simplex Foundations is now installing foundation piles for a new Hilton Hotel being built in the vicinity of T5, Heathrow Airport, in a £300,000 contract for Main Contractor, John Sisk & Son Ltd.
The installation, over approximately five weeks, comprises 151, 400mm diameter CFA piles; 126, 450mm diameter CFA piles; and 194, 600mm diameter CFA piles with 100% integrity testing, to include de-bonding foam for the cropping of the piles to cut-off level.
Two Soilmec CM70 rigs are being used, each fitted with red warning lights atop the masts due to their deployment in the flight path of landing aircraft.

A new CFA instrumentation – an updated Lutz system – is being used by Simplex for the first time, to monitor concrete flow, pile depth, drill resistance, and pile shaft construction.
The new hotel will offer 350 bedrooms, extensive leisure and conference facilities in six storeys.
It is being constructed using a steel frame with precast concrete panels. The exterior will be finished in a brickwork and reconstituted stone cladding.
The hotel is due for completion, December 2010.
