Simplex Westpile foundations for new Liverpool University Research facility

Simplex Westpile have installed foundation piles for the new Liverpool University Research Facility adjacent to the University’s Bio-Science Building.
The facility will comprise 5950 square meters of new laboratory space in a single four storey block and will support the University’s health research into infectious diseases, cancer, and digestive diseases.
It is being constructed in keeping with the University’s Sustainability Agenda using recycled materials, sustainable timber and heat recovery.
Simplex Westpile’s installation comprised 160 600mm CFA piles, bored to average depths of 10m into sandstone substrata which is common to Liverpool’s geology, using a single Soilmec CM70 piling rig.
The construction budget is £16.5m. The Main Contractor is Shepherd Construction. The approximate value of Simplex Westpile’s piling contract is £140,000.
