Westpile has provided a design and installation solution for a secant wall and bearing piles for the current phase of expansion to University of Southampton’s Highfield Campus.
The piling, with a contract value of £560k comprises 600mm diameter piles. The site contains a 4m step which is supported by the hard-firm secant wall with bearing piles being installed from the upper level in advance of the secant wall and from the lower level once the excavation is complete.
The new building which is being constructed adjacent to a recently completed facility, also piled by the same Westpile team, will provide further research and teaching laboratories, office facilities and other academic spaces in a series of three combined blocks of three and four storeys with partial lower ground floor.
