Wakefield Westgate Regeneration Project

Simplex Foundations has installed piling for the first part of the £11m Wakefield City Centre Regeneration Project currently being delivered by VINCI Construction UK Limited.

The new construction is the five storey multi-storey car park serving Wakefield’s Westgate Railway Station.

Simplex has installed a total of 226, 600mm diameter load bearing piles to an average depth of 8m deploying two Soilmec CFA CM70 rigs and crews on this large open site adjacent to the working rail lines. Ground conditions are said to be up to 4m made ground, founding into weak mudstone.

The Westgate Development Area is said to be one of the most important City Centre development sites in Yorkshire, providing a new high quality business quarter on a former railway goods yard next to the station.

Simplex Foundations contract, worth approximately £220k, was completed at the end of April.
