Westpile installs Piling for Eltham Storage Facility

Westpile is installing a secant piled perimeter retaining wall in the first construction stage of the new Big Yellow Storage Facility being built neighbouring the South Circular Road in Eltham, South East London.

The installation comprises 250 firm and 250 600mm diameter hard piles on 900mm centres with an overall length of 225 linear metres to an average depth of 26m.

The company is deploying two Soilmec SR70 rigs together with ancillary support cranes, concrete mixers and all sundry support equipment.

The main contractor for the scheme is McLaren Construction. Westpile provided the design for both the secant wall and the bearing piles. The value of Westpile’s contract is approximately £481,000.

The company are to install load bearing piles for the scheme following on immediately from the present piling operations.
