Ensus Bioethanol Plant

Simplex Westpile installed a total of 2,456 CFA piles within the Wilton International integrated petrochemical site on Teeside to enable the construction of the first indigenous world scale bioethanol production facility in the UK for Ensus (UK) Limited.

The installation into ground conditions of glacial till, overlying mudstone, involved 2,047 400mm piles with an average depth of 12.9m; and a further 409 of 450mm diameter piles to an average depth of 13.5m. Two Soilmec CM-48 CFA rigs from the Simplex Westpile fleet were utilised.

The Ensus plant has an annual production capacity of more than 400 million litres and is the largest of its kind in Europe, producing water soluble, bio-degradable, non-toxic fuel from a wheat grain feedstock the entire process from grain milling to finished fuel carried out on site.
