Simplex Westpile has completed piling installation on site in the first phase of the new 30,000 square metre Mittal Children’s Medical Centre, the extensive £321m redevelopment programme at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust (GOSH).
The company constructed 307 linear metres of secant piled retaining wall, comprised of 171 750mm diameter hard piles and 171 750mm diameter firm piles, together with 20 600 mm diameter load bearing piles in a 12 week contract which ended in May.
The new Mittal Children’s Medical Centre is designed by UK architects Llewelyn Davis Yeang (LDY) and consists of two linked buildings which will be built in two phases.
The Morgan Stanley Clinical Building is the first of these. The Mittal Children’s Medical Centre will house new wards, operating theatres, offices and a staff and family restaurant.
The new hospital development will provide all its own energy and aims to be carbon-free.
